Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers
(3 John 1:2)
The Middle School Ministry at St. Michael’s provides year-round opportunities for youth engagement in the Parish. The program is designed for 6th – 8th graders and is open to the churched and unchurched. The program aims to lead teens closer to Christ through experiences that encourage personal encounters with The Living Christ.
Faith Formation Classes
Middle School Faith Formation reinforces K-5 catechesis and begins the conversation on faith ownership.
St. Michael’s will be using LifeTeen’s EDGE curriculum. During each year of the EDGE program, teens will focus on different aspects of faith. Sixth graders will focus on Prayer and Scripture. Seventh graders will focus on Morality and the Sacraments. Eighth graders will focus on Mass and the Creed. The sessions will be formatted as such – introduction, engage, reflect, and respond. This allows for a small group icebreaker, teaching and reflection activities. A sample is here.
In addition to the Catechetical Nights, we also offer Social Nights and Issue Nights. Issue Life Nights deal with specific “real world issues” that teens deal with (i.e. drinking, gossip, chastity, divorce, peer pressure, abortion, virtues, etc.). These nights help teens see how their Catholic faith is relevant to every aspect of their lives. Social Life Nights build Christian community and friendships through both on-site and off-site fun.
Please check back for updates.
Due to updated Archdiocesan guidelines, for all programs, you are required to fill out this form before attendance. Students are asked to wear masks in class and be at least 3 feet apart.
Please RSVP for all Issue, Service, and Social Nights here!
There are currently two community service days planned for the weeks of November 21, 2022, and January 30, 2022. Details TBA.
There are currently two Social Nights planned for the weeks of Friday, November 5, 2021 and Sunday, December 19, 2021.
- Friday, November 5, 2021, will be a worship social from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. We will join in the Parish Eucharistic Adoration, then Praise & Worship. Teens are free to eat, play games and hang out thereafter.
- Sunday, December 19, 2021, will be our Christmas Party!

There are currently three Issue Nights planned for this year. The first will be on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (October 17, 2021). The second topic hasn’t been decided. The last topic of the year will be about Dating & Relationships (February 2022). These will be in place of weekly sessions.
For all 3 nights, you will sign up to attend with your Faith Formation Leader. If you are not taking any classes this year and do not have a leader, reach out to me – [email protected]
The Middle School Mini Camp is scheduled for Monday, July 18-Friday, July 22, 2022. Camper applications will be accepted from rising 6th to rising 9th graders. The theme this year is ‘ATOMIC!’
Our adventures for the week include Ziplining, Guppy Gulch, Whitewater rafting, and Hershey Park. Add in a huge opportunity to understand and serve those in need! Our high school peer ministers (rising 10th – 12th graders) will have a week full of faith, fun, and a theme planned out to make this a week to celebrate!
More details and the application to follow soon!
New this year (due to parent feedback!), we will have lectionary-based discipleship groups. These small groups are designed to help teenagers gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Sacred Scripture and the Holy Mass. Teens are also encouraged to build relationships with one another through the weekly meet-ups. Teens will be led by a Peer Minister over the course of 6 weeks. Cohorts start from May through the end of August.
Youth are encouraged to pick a parish pathway whenever they feel ready. Options for middle school leaders include altar servers, scouts, and Vacation Bible School.
Rise Up Middle School Retreat
This Archdiocesan middle school event is designed for 6-8th graders to enjoy outdoor challenges (last year was hosted at Tree Trekkers) while engaging in the Gospel message. The theme for last year was ‘Arise, shine, for your light has come’ (Isaiah 60:1).
Parents are encouraged to come and support their teen throughout the course and engage in the Gospel message anew alongside their teen. There will also be special sessions just for parents – finally something for you!
The registration is through the Archdiocese (link will be included here once the details for 2022 are released). You will see that there are options for “participant” and for “attendee.” Participants will be on the ropes course. This is primarily meant for the teens. Parents are encouraged to come as “attendees.” Attendees are free. Your group leader is “Simone Oyekan” and our Parish is “St Michael’s Poplar Springs” when you register.
There are only 15 spots for each half hour (9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, etc.). When registering you should plan to be on-site for 3 hours (registering for 9:00 AM will have you on-site until 12:00 PM). They will not be serving meals during the day, though there may be individually packaged snacks and beverages. There will be plenty of Archdiocesan vetted chaperones (background checked and VIRTUS trained adults). Youths can sign up for any day and time that they like, even if I cannot be there at that time/day. Just sign up and go!
Dress to be outside. Bring a water bottle, snack, and wear a mask that fits over the nose and mouth.
The registration is first come – first serve so don’t wait. Also, do not let the expense stop your teen from attending – please let me know. We want everyone to come! Once you are registered, I would love for you to forward your registration email to me at [email protected]
Currently urgently recruiting for middle school Faith Formation Leaders on Sunday and Wednesday and parent chaperones for the summer camps. Please email [email protected] if you can volunteer.
