To be Christians means to be missionaries, to be apostles. It is not enough to discover Christ you must bring him to others! ~ Saint John Paul II, Fourth World Youth Day.
Our pastor, Rev. Michael Joseph Ruane, has been a parish priest for over forty years. Born in Baltimore, he began preparation for the priesthood and studies in liberal arts in 1957 at St. Charles High School and College Seminary, Catonsville, Md. Twelve years later, he completed his priestly formation and studies in philosophy and theology at Mt. St. Mary´s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md. The year before ordination he served as a deacon at St. Cecilia in Baltimore and St. Joseph in Emmitsburg. He was ordained a priest for the Church of Baltimore by Lawrence Cardinal Shehan on May 17, 1969 at the Cathedral of Mary our Queen.
His first appointment was to St. Agnes Church in Catonsville as an associate pastor from 1969 – 1977. He was then appointed to Our Lady of Hope Church in Dundalk from 1977-1988. In 1988, Archbishop William D. Borders appointed him pastor to St. Michael Church, Poplar Springs, where he has served for twenty-five years.
In his assignments he ministers to young and old, and breaks a twofold bread, that of instruction and that of life; the word of God and the holy Eucharist, opening up the Scriptures, and encouraging a ministry of shared responsibility in building up one body in Christ.
At every Mass Fr. Mike says, “Pray, brethren, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. And we, God´s Covenant People, pray: “May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.”
